Its meant to simplify chord shape. People with long fingernails or suffer from partial arthritis appreciate open C tuning. Another advantage is playing half raise key at the end of a song section. E.g if you play a songs with Chord C,F , G then raise the key by half and the chords becomes C#,F# and G#. Try playing these raise key chord using GCEA vs GCEG , the ease of playing is noticeable in the latter. tuning.

@@kroy21 I am doing the speaking and just recover from a non covid flu so the precaution. The mask contains a coating that kills bacteria and virus and reduce virus load. I hope you understand how surgical mask works. I am with students...not alone.

How can you play minor chords with open c tuning?
Remember string #1, is tune one note or two fret lower For Gcea tuning Am is 2000 where 2 is second fret string "4 ( top string) and the rest of the string is open. In Gceg tuning the Am chord becomes 2002 where string 4 and 1 is on fret 2 and the rest of the string are open. Gcea tuning Cm = 0333. String 4 is open and the rest of the string or on fret #3. In GCEG tuning, Cm = 0335. ( increment of string #1 by factor of 2 frets. ) Em chord for Gceg tuning is 0434
A 12 String Guitar high g might help
